BACKWARDS, a feature film about rowing and starring James Van Der Beek, Margaret Colin, Glenn Morshower, and Sarah Megan Thomas is now complete and ready for distribution.

Masters Rowing – 2012

The Masters program is scheduled to begin on May 15th. We will be rowing Tuesdays
and Thursdays from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM, and Saturdays from 7:30 AM to 9:30 AM.

Spokane River on target for an Average year

So far this year the weather and Spokane River flows are looking good for an on-time start to the season on May 15th at our “home” on the Spokane River. In recent years (2008 and 2011) the SRRA season was impacted due to unusually high spring runoff which kept us off the water for the whole 2008 season, and delayed our rowing on the Spokane River until July!

You can track the river levels at the website USGS National Water Information System website. You can also view the predictions for the next week at the National Weather Service site.

2012 Learn to Row sessions scheduled

Don’t make excuses, this is the year that you push yourself to new goals, and new experiences. Download the Learn to Row Flyer.

These summer sessions are for men and women (age 18 and older) who are interested in trying a new sport and adding a fun dimension to their summer schedule.

Each three-week session will be made up of lessons on the ergometer and on-the-water sessions in actual rowing shells! You will learn the basics of the rowing stroke as well as how to use the indoor machine to train on your own. Basic boathouse terminology and boat/oar handling skills will also be part of your experience.

The cost for the three-week class is $150 and covers 7 sessions, including a Saturday morning session with the SRRA Masters group.

2012 Annual Meeting

The Spokane River Rowing Association annual meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 10th, from 6:00 to 7:30pm at the Spokane Public Library on the South Hill (3324 S. Perry). The club enjoyed one of it’s most successful seasons ever in 2011. And we are looking forward to an even better year of rowing this summer. The SRRA officers invite you to attend our annual meeting to help us get the year off to a productive start and to set the course for a new year. We will review the club finances, discuss recruitment and mentoring of new rowers, plan for Masters events, select a design for the SRRA oar blades, and elect officers for 2012.

In preparation for the meeting, we would encourage you to:

Review the SRRA 2012 Annual Meeting handout;
Sign the 2012 USRowing Release of Liability form in the handout materials and bring it to the meeting;
Help the club promote the Learn to Row program by downloading and printing the LTR flyer and posting it on community bulletin boards around town (coffee houses, grocery stores, your work place, churches, gyms, etc.); and
Think of who you would like to see as an officer of the club and submit nominations for President, Vice-President, Treasurer and/or Secretary to SRRA@spokanerowing.org by 5:00 Pm, April 9th.

High water flows continue

The SRRA season is off to a slow start due to continued high spring runoff on the Spokane River. While the river did not peak as high as it did in 2008, the high levels are continuing later into the season.

Masters practices for Tuesday, June 14th and Thursday, June 16th will be from 6:00 to 7:30pm at the Spokane River boathouse where we will continue our love affair with the land single.
